It’s been a little over a month since my last update on this site. I certainly haven’t forgotten about it. It’s weird. I feel like I’ve been busy when I reflect, but I know I also had a lot of downtime. I guess I’ve just been focused on other things.
I took a break from using my brain creatively, which is strange for me. Usually I am always working on something, but I just haven’t for the past few weeks. I didn’t not have muse. I just didn’t focus on it at all. I gave my brain a complete rest.
Okay, maybe that’s not completely true. I did actually sit down and start brainstorming and building on ideas that I’ve had, and even added a few words here and there to a few separate documents. I even took my best friend’s unintentional advice and started some Pinterest boards for my writing ideas – sometimes all you really need for inspiration is a little aesthetic feel, I guess. And they’re all fiction ideas, whaddya know?

You may or may not care about that, but from one writer to another, it really gets your juices flowing. (I recognize this is hardly a novel/new idea, but it’s the first time I stopped to actually try it, and I’m enjoying the fun of getting back into Pinterest and using it for more than just pins of food that catch my eye at 3 a.m.)
I guess I did also play some ukulele and almost write a couple of new songs 2 weeks back. I picked up my ukulele again this morning before I had to get ready for work and made a mental note to pick it back up again soon.
Otherwise, when I’m not working, I have been completely involved in consuming media rather than creating it. I’ve been playing “Minecraft” a lot (because, in an attempt to give my brain a break, I’m taking a short break from “Batman: Arkham Knight” or anything story-driven. in which I drive the story). I’ve been listening to a lot of music and watching a lot of shows. I’ve gotten back into watching some of my favorite YouTubers on a fairly regular basis. And I’ve been reading a lot again.
Most recently I finished Ready Player One, which was a blast of a read. I’m almost sad I don’t have any more of it to chew on. I have started reading The Martian, though. I have already seen the film, but now is my chance to read through his logs. So far, I’m highly amused and impressed. I’m reading it along side my best friend. She’s ahead of me right now, but I plan on changing that.
I guess the real update though is that I plan on making a new list of pitches for Reductress.com (one of my best friends and fellow writers, Ariel Felton, just got published there, and her stories are great). And I plan on doing more art in general. I have a long list of books to read, and I’m going to be spending more time drinking tea and writing the things I haven’t finished yet.
Hope your May is turning out nicely.
